Winter arrives on the North Shore
Well it was inevitable that the the “coldest spot in the country” readings were start coming in and registering all over the northeast corner of Minnesota! But can you blame us if part of us still wants to hold on to a bit of summer?
The national weather service this week registered Grand Marais, MN as the coldest place in the nation on December, 19 dropping the mercury all the way to -9F. Twitter was naturally, well, all a twitter about this!
By comparsion, Florida checked in at the hottest, 80F, but certainly not as pretty as the North Shore, we’ll take the cold!

Artist’s Point Proves It’s Namesake
As you walk out into the harbor near Grand Marais to get up to Artist’s Point, you pass an old U.S. Coast Guard station. It’s a pretty sterile white building that stands at the tip just before the break-wall. This week someone share a beautiful watercolor rendering of the station guarding the entry to Artist’s Point, proving the namesake of the area it watches over. The point beyond the station is named for the artist’s the area has inspired over the decades and centuries.
White Christmas
The best part of the season is the views. Getting out and exploring snow kissed spruce and pines. If you’re lucking, you come face to face with the wildlife that calls this wonderful place home. Just like @mhilmanxx did, which he captured and share with us on Twitter. This happy little guy didn’t seem to mind having his picture taken and shared.
