Hidden Falls are a main attraction at Temperance River State Park and accessible from a short hike off MN highway 61.
How do the Hidden Falls hide?
The rush of the Temperance River creates a swirl, almost vortex of water. Over hundreds of years that vortex has worked through the rock like a drill bit, drilling down into cauldrons so that now much of the falls is hidden behind much of what use to be the old falls.
Getting there
The Temperance River provides one of the easiest waterfalls to get to, just off highway 61. The wayside stop is located 80 miles (128km) northeast of Duluth, and the falls are located on the west side of the highway, about 1/4 of a mile hike of the road. To the west you can walk down stairs out onto a bridge over the river to look down at rapids and out into the river spilling into Lake Superior.
