Minus the caribou
Caribou Rock is another hike off the Gunflint Trail that’s well worth the stop with panoramic views of Bearskin lake.
Where is it?
Caribou Rock hiking trailhead is 28 miles up the Gunflint Trail (County Road 12), then right on to Hungry Jack road for 2 miles.
Hiking Caribou Rock
While the trail is 7 miles round trip and offers all sorts of overlooks and terrain, for those taking in a tour of trails the Gunflint has to offer, you can do a short trek up to the first overlook of Bearskin Lake, about .25 miles up.
The hiking is difficult and over rocky terrain with steep inclines.
Interesting info
Another .25 of a mile past the Bearskin Lake overlook takes you to the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
